We’ve all heard “don’t compare yourself to others. The only person you should compare yourself to is who you were yesterday.”
Comparing ourselves to anything in the past is dangerous advice.
It will reap the same negative effects of comparing ourselves to others.
If we are conditioning ourselves to “be a better me” than the day before, we are inviting old programming into our now. Why? Because to be a better you now, you have to remember the “worse you” from yesterday. It puts you in a state of “I need to be better.” “I need to fix me and my situations.”
What this does is it makes it difficult to actually experience better things because we are inviting the things we don’t like about ourselves and our problems into the now.
This is how states of apathy and depression happen. Rumination of negativity.
If no big changes are happening in our lives to get us to think and feel differently, and we are trying to be better than we were, we are inviting yesterdays negativity into todays potential positivity.
So the answer to this is to not compare yourself to anything, but to feel and be in the present moment. To let the past go and be without engaging in regrets of the past or worries if the future. The past is gone and the future doesn’t exist.
